Services produces the Short Introduction To the Breed, still the first contact for people who like to have something to read, that is sent out free of charge to all enquiries and is given to all breeders to include in their puppy packs. We are listed at all vets in the UK and appear in glossy magazines and periodicals. Services means to be noticed by anybody looking for information and help regarding the breed. In this they are assisted by breeders in all parts of the country who provide their time, and their dogs, to be “live” models to meet and greet any future owner and answer their questions.
Even though the horizons of Services have widened the Rescue side still figures greatly.
No Glen is turned away and all are kept for assessment of at least two weeks, usually
four, before rehoming is considered. The policy of “the home is important” is followed
so only a donation to Rescue is asked for any Glen.
Services also offers a knowledgeable
kenneling facility to any Glen owner who is temporarily having problems and may need
help. Some more senior Glen owners have actually mentioned Services in their will
with regard to their animals if they do not predecease them. Handbag or wallet sized
postcards are also available listing our name and telephone number so in the case
of any emergency there is not the added worry of what is happening to the dogs.
GLEN SERVICES began life as Glen Rescue way back in 1980; at a time when even more
popular breeds were often without the facility. For years that was all that was done
but slowly it was realised that the remit was changing. Rescue, as it involved people
actively concerned with the breed at all levels, was increasingly becoming a contact
and promotion organisation also. Besides rescue, advice and information was available
& the first leaflet on the breed was produced.
Public perception on dogs began to
change and more people wanted advice before committing themselves to a breed. Rescue
took a deep breath and changed into Services; working on the principle that people
would relate better to the new title when they only wanted advice on the breed. They
did!
Services does everything it can to support the breed of Glen of Imaals. Sometimes it isn’t popular with some when it emphasises so strongly that a Glen is a wonderful dog but is not a cuddly toy so is NOT A SUITABLE PET FOR EVERYONE.On the whole though SERVICES and Glen people are as one
